Rigging Ruby: Scene Set Up and Character Breakdown

Posted on

Hey Everyone!

Today’s the day! We start building Ruby together! Head on over to my YouTube channel (or just scroll down to the bottom of this post) to start building her with me.

This first video is just setting up the scene, making a template to reuse whenever you start a rig, breaking down the character, and planning pivots.

This series will probably be a large number of videos because I’m trying to keep the videos around an hour. This way they are easy to swallow and the amount of information isn’t too overwhelming for those just starting out. When I taught a three-hour class, my students actually preferred two shorter breaks to split the class into 3 smaller chunks as opposed to a longer break with two longer learning sections. It gave them a better opportunity to process the info and break at about the right time before everything became mud.

Below you will find the turnaround file I am using and the YouTube lesson!

PS: Shout out to Juhas on YouTube. He made the blank guy rig that can be found on Gumroad. I used his blank guy sketch as a base to draw on for Ruby. I have a link to his YouTube and Gumroad in the description of this lesson on my YouTube.
